East Meadow is a hamlet home in Hempstead known as a suburb city to New York. The area was an area that had grazing cattle in 1655 with around 14,000 sheep grazing here at the end of the 1700’s which gave the area the majority of its fur. During the Revolutionary War, British forces called the area home and were in control of the livestock found here until the end of the war. After the war, the population increased rapidly from around 2,000 to 25,000 not only due to the grazing and farming opportunities, but due to farmers selling their land to developers.
The community is under the East Meadow Union Free School offering 9 public schools. The area is known for being close knit even with a population of 37,461 with the Chamber of Commerce working with businesses via scholarships and other community services to help the area thrive. The hamlet is home to many unique shops, fine dining, churches, and a hospital.
East Meadow has a wide array of attractions including the Eisenhower County Park Museum that provides residents and visitors alike with all kinds of outdoor activities such as water skiing, boating, picnicking, swimming, hiking, and wildlife observation. East Meadow has soccer fans to say the least with their own soccer club, The East Meadow Soccer Club, and is home to two soccer tournaments annually.
